Introduction

It all began with a newspaper article published in The Scotsman on Monday 24th January 2000. That simple piece of text fuelled the imagination and gave rise to thoughts of fulfilling a dream of travelling to the Arctic; of playing golf in extreme and unusual conditions and of the extraordinary people that would be encountered on the journey.

That was all it took to convince me that Greenland and the World Ice Golf Championship would be an adventure not to be missed. I owe thanks to Ted Osuch and Pauline Kemp who played a significant part in making it happen.

In the following chapters I have tried to put into words the magic that unfolded.
